Hack the networks 17.-18.5.2024 Dipoli, Espoo, Finland

Security of 5G networks and solutions will play pivotal role in our highly digitalized world. Local and private mobile networks, especially with the power of 5G, can provide flexible, fast and secure connectivity to plethora of different use cases also in the critical sectors that ensure the smooth functioning of our society. New technologies and their implementation introduce new attack vectors. Additionally, the flexible connectivity facilitated by 5G leads to an increased number of network endpoints and use cases creating additional opportunities for cyberattacks. If the networks and functions are compromised, these vulnerabilities can be exploited with heightened speed and scale to affect different services that also can be critical.

It is crucial to identify potential vulnerabilities prior to the widespread implementation of local private 5G networks in critical sectors and environments such as factories, power plants, airports, harbors and hospitals. To protect the society and its critical infrastructure from future cyberattacks it is important to work in close cooperation between cybersecurity community, network vendors, academia and the public sector.

Thus, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom continues the series of 5G cybersecurity hacking events with a new Hack the Networks event in May 2024.

In 2019 Traficom organized the world's first open 5G Cyber Security Hack. The first hack was a great success and it boosted collaboration between cybersecurity community, network vendors, academia and the public sector. The second 5G Cyber Security Hack took place virtually in 2021 in the middle of the pandemic. Now the story continues with Hack the Networks 2024.
